2010 WTA singles ranking: #46
2009 Hot 100 rank: #84

The veteran Japanese kept on amazing everyone with her incredible fitness at the age of 40 and broke into Top 50 defeating top players such as Sharapova, Stosur, Safina, Petrova or Li.

2010 Hot 100: #98 Mirjana Lucic

28 years old
2010 WTA singles ranking: #105
2009 Hot 100 rank: -

A former teen prodigy, Lucic broke into Top 40 in 1998 when she was just 16, reaching Wimbledon semis in 1999, but dropped in the rankings afterwards, and even quitted tennis for some years. She came back in 2007 and failed to get back to the top level until this season, when she finally got back into Top 100.

2010 Hot 100: #99 Sesil Karatantcheva

21 years old
2010 WTA singles ranking: #139
2009 Hot 100 rank: -

The shameless Bulgarian, now representing Kazakhstan, was a teen (16 yo) Roland Garros quarter-finalist and then served a 2-year doping ban. A thunderous return was expected, but she hasn't managed to break into Top 100 again yet. At least, the cheeky Girl with the Butterfly Tattoo has shown herself training in bikini.

2010 Hot 100: #100 Elena Bovina

27 years old
2010 WTA singles ranking: #154
2009 Hot 100 rank: #93

Hot shot: Karolina Jovanovic naked for Serbian edition of Playboy

Serbian tennis player Karolina Jovanovic posed nude for the September issue of the Serbian edition of men's magazine Playboy. Jovanovic, who reached her highest ranking at #404 in 2007 and is currently ranked at #960 after struggling with injuries in the last few years, follows the steps of Brazilian Vanessa Menga and American Ashley Harkleroad, who posed for Playboy in 2001 and 2008 respectively.

Hot stuff: Top 5 music videos featuring tennis players

I just saw Martin Solveig's latest music video Hello which was shot at Roland Garros and I thought it would be interesting to do a compilation of some music videos with tennis players on them.

5- Olga Barabanschikova - Poslednii tanets
The former WTA player from Belarus pursued a showbussiness career as model, TV host and singer after her retirement. In this video she combined her two passions, music and tennis.

4- Igor Nikolaev - Kak Ty Prekrasna (feat. Elena Dementieva)
The usually discreet Olympic champion Elena Dementieva looked stunning in this video of Russian singer Igor Nikolaev.

3- Martin Solveig & Dragonette - Hello (feat. Novak Djokovic & Gael Monfils)
Not only the video is shot in Roland Garros with Solveig looking like Bjorn Borg and Bob Sinclair as Andre Agassi, but ATP stars Novak Djokovic and Gael Monfils play key roles on it. WTA fans may even recognize French players Mathilde Johansson (as the lineswoman) and Olivia Sanchez (as one of Sinclair's fans)

2- Shakira - Gypsy (feat. Rafael Nadal)
This video showed a great chemistry between big Latin music star Shakira and a shirtless ATP No.1 Rafael Nadal, including an epic kiss at the end of the video.

1- Enrique Iglesias - Escape (feat. Anna Kournikova)

In late 2001 Iglesias asked the WTA sex-symbol to star in the video for his hit Escape, which includes scenes with both stars making out in the ladies restroom and inside a car. Then they started a relationship in real life that lasts for more than 8 years.

Hot shot: Anna Kournikova in 3D in Maxim's October issue

Source: maxim.com

Former WTA star Anna Kournikova posed for Maxim's October 2010 issue, which comes with a pair of 3-D spectacles to enjoy Anna in all her multi-dimensional glory. One of the photos features Anna with an American flag to celebrate her recently obtained American citizenship.

Check out her entire interview and photos in the October issue of Maxim, or in maxim.com, but here you can find a sneak preview of the photos.

Player of the week: Kim Clijsters

Former WTA #1 Kim Clijsters amazed everyone when she became US Open 2009 champion right after coming back from a 2-year break and becoming a mother. This week she wrote antoher chapter of her successful story winning her 37th WTA title in Miami.

Clijsters already started the tournament in an impressive way, dropping just 2 games to Kvitova in the 2nd round, 1 game to 17th seed Shahar Peer in the 3rd round, and 4 games to defending champion and 4th seed Victoria Azarenka in the Last-16 round. But after another straight sets victory over Samantha Stosur in the quarters, Clijsters had to face a very special and tough semifinal against fellow former #1 on her way back to the Tour Justine Henin. Despite losing a 6/2 4/0 lead to lose the 2nd set in the tiebreak, Clijsters didn't lost her focus and managed to win the match in a thrilling third set tiebreak. The final also looked difficult as Clijsters was facing 3rd seed Venus Williams, who was on a 15-match winning streak, but Clijsters rolled to a 6/2 6/1 victory.

With this victory, she has got her place back in the Top-10, but she sees herself contending for #1. Be aware Serena.

WTA ranking as of 5-Apr-2010

After her title in Miami, former #1 on her way back to the Tour Kim Clijsters gets back into Top-10, as runner-up Venus Williams climbs one to #4 and last year champion Victoria Azarenka drops two to #9. Semifinalists Marion Bartoli and Justine Henin move from #15 to #12 and from #33 to #23 respectively.

Week #14 preview: Marbella, Pontevedra Beach

Marbella (ESP), International, $220,000
On its 2nd edition, the Spanish tournament at the beggining of red clay season is probably one of the most powerful International tournaments and will feature 3 Top-20 players: WTA #7 Victoria Azarenka, US Open champion Kim Clijsters, just after getting the title last week in Miami, and WTA #13 Flavia Pennetta. Nevertheless, surprises in clay tournaments should never be discarded, and players such as Aravane Rezai, Maria Kirilenko and Gisela Dulko should be taken into account, as well as local players Maria Jose Martinez, Anabel Medina and Carla Suarez, who will be supported by the home crowd.

Pontevedra Beach (USA), International, $220,000

WTA #2 and defending champion Caroline Wozniacki is the biggest attraction and big favourite for the title in the first green clay tournament in the USA. On her way to the title, Wozniacki will have to overcome solid players such as Alona Bondarenko, Patty Schnyder, Elena Vesnina and Virginie Razzano and upcoming youngsters such as Dominika Cibulkova, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Aleksandra Wozniak and Melanie Oudin.

Week #12-13: Clijsters defeats Venus Williams for Miami title

After coming back from retirement to win the US Open in 2009, Belgian Kim Clijsters showed again her best tennis to get her 37th WTA title in Miami, often nicknamed as"the fifth major". Already champion in 2005, Clijsters had to go through a thrilling semifinal against fellow comeback Belgian Justine Henin, which was decided in the third set tie-break. Then in the final Clijsters swept 3-times champion Venus Williams. Marion Bartoli completed the semis, whereas Caroline Wozniacki, Yanina Wickmayer, Samantha Stosur and Agnieszka Radwanska reached the quarter-finals.

Hot shot: Wozniacki's revealing dress at Sony Ericsson Open kick-off party

Young WTA star Caroline Wozniacki shocked everyone last Tuesday when she arrived to the Sony Ericsson Open kick-off party in Miami wearing a very revealing dress that showed most of her upper body. The dress generated many oppinions among tennis fans and was described as "inappropiate", "risque" or even "slutty".
In my opinion it looks more appropiate for "Dancing with the stars" than for a players party, but as a man I think she looks really hot on it and I'm not going to blame her for showing her body off.
